Comet Pride is Community-wide!Fall Salmon Season
October 27th, 2016 by Nathan Grinnell
Pulaski, New york, is a relatively small town but during the fall, business booms because of one thing... salmon. A whole part of Pulaski near the river is a dedicated to business; bars, dinners, bait shops, all packed full of fisherman, and they are not just from New York, they are from all over the country. Of course, the river is full of people as well as fish, and it is as much of a social thing as a solitary one, talking to people from different parts of New york and the country makes it feel for like we are all connected by something not mattering how significant that thing maybe.
The types of salmon that can be found in New York are Atlantic salmon, Chinook, Coho, sockeye, and pink. You can see all these salmon without getting wet at the Altmar fish hatchery there is also many trout and steelhead. When you step inside their giant fish mounted on the wall from trout to salmon and even a sturgeon .But as you walk through the complex there is the part where they hatch the eggs and the minnows are in the tank. The water may look black but that is because of the sheer number of minnows hundreds of thousands of them in one big tank. And on the other side you can see the adult salmon try to jump over the concrete to get back to the river and the manmade channel is teaming with massive fish.
This is not just a sport or a yearly event it is a livelihood to people around the river, working near the river, or simply fishing it.Even if you don't catch one just being in the river with waiters on, with a nice beautiful autumn day makes it worth it. And even if you don't want all those people there are many secluded spots with just as many fish, and sometimes the adventure to the fishing spot is worth it in itself.
