Announcements
July 22, 2024

Dear Sandy Creek Elementary students and parents,

I hope this message finds you and your family enjoying the wonderful summer weather. Hopefully you’ve been able to enjoy some camping, swimming, fishing, boating, or other fun summer activities during your summer vacation. If not, there’s still over a month of summer break left to do something fun for the summer! I want to let all of our families know that we are here for you and your children, so please don’t hesitate to call us with questions or concerns about school or your child. The Sandy Creek community continues to be a safe and supportive place for our children to learn and grow!

Along with this letter you should find a letter from your child’s teacher. They are very excited to begin working with each of you next month when we open up the school year. Our first day of school for all students PreK-12 is on Wednesday, September 4, 2024. The school day will begin at 8:00am and dismissal will begin at 2:55 for parent pick up.

New this year, we are hosting a Welcome Back to School event on Tuesday, September 3, 2024 from 5pm-6pm. This event is in place of our Open House which would typically occur after a few weeks of school. We are hoping that families can come to school to meet their child’s teacher and drop off any school supplies that you may want to put in their desks or cubbies. We are very excited about this new opportunity as we feel it will help alleviate some of the fears and anxiety that may occur on the first day of school when children don’t know who their teacher is or where their classroom is. Please contact our office at 315-387-3445 ext. 1110 if you have any questions regarding this event.

PreK & Kindergarten parents: we encourage placing name tags on your child with their teacher’s name for the first week of school. It greatly helps staff as we get to know your child, especially on the first day.

Cell Phones: We often get asked what the elementary school policy is on cell phones. Here are the expectations for students with cell phones in PreK-5th grade. If an elementary student brings a cell phone to school, it should be turned off and kept in their backpack or kept at the teacher’s desk during school hours 8am-3pm. If a student is found using their phone during the school day, they will be asked to give us their cell phone to hold until the end of the day for a first offense. If they are found using it again, then they will be asked to turn the cell phone into our office and a parent will be called to come pick it up.

New staff: We have a few new staff members and some staff that have changed positions over the summer. Here is a list of new staff and/or position changes.

Parent Drop Off: Students can be dropped off at the parking lot doors beginning at 7:45 am until 8:15 am. Please pull up along the sidewalk and let your child out. There will be a staff member near the doors in case you need any assistance. For late arrivals, after 8:15am, you must bring them to the office to check them in.

Parent Pick Up: Parent Pick Up will continue to use the PikMyKid app as we have for the past two years. Please register using the app even if your child rides a bus as it will allow you to make dismissal changes using your device and the calendar in the app. We have found this system to be very efficient and has proven to be a safe way to dismiss our students and we hope you do as well. If you must pick up your child early for an appointment, we ask that you pick up from the main office before 2:30pm. Please be sure to announce that you are in the parking lot using the app and be sure that you have your child’s unique ID number visible for our staff as they bring your child out to your car. This ensures the safety of all students and helps to keep things moving along smoothly. We appreciate your cooperation and support.

Mark your calendars:
Stuff-A-Bus is Monday, August 26th between 5:30pm - 6:30pm at the Oswego County Fairgrounds. Bring your child and pick out a backpack filled with school supplies.
We hope that you are able to join us for our Welcome Back to School event this year on Wednesday, September 3, 2024 from 5pm-6pm.

Please contact our office at 315-387-3445 ext. 1110 if you have any further questions or concerns. Enjoy the rest of your summer, have a great Labor Day weekend and we hope to see you on the evening of September 3rd.

Sincerely,
