The Sandy Creek Varsity Football team has had a great season so far. With a 6-2 overall game standing, the boys have earned a shot at making it to the Dome. The team has had outstanding victories over the past few weeks against IHC and Beaver River. During the homecoming game against IHC, Joe Benedict broke the New York State record for most rushing yards in a single game with 584 yards. The previous record being 569 yards. This led the Comets to a 53-34 win that night. Yes, tensions were high during the IHC game, however they were even higher that next Friday when they played Beaver River. The score was close the entire game. The Comets assured their victory and the chance to move on to the playoffs when Joe Benedict scored the last touchdown of the night with approximately twenty seconds left on the clock, making the score 28-26. Over the past weekend, the boys advanced to the semifinals by beating West Canada Valley 14-7 in a brutal game. Even though the weather was less than cooperative, the Comets pulled through for the victory. When asked about the season and the team, Coach Halsey had some noteworthy replies.

How has the season been going?
"We have had to fill the void left by last year's seniors. People have stepped up to the plate, which has allowed us to be successful."

Has the team been working together well?
"Over the many weeks of practice together and over the course of this season, these boys have grown closer and closer together."

Do you believe the boys have what it takes to make it to the Dome?
"Going in you have to have the mentality that until someone beats us, we are going to win. If someone beats us then kudos to them."

What has been your most memorable moment of this season? In other words, if you had to pick one moment from this season, what would that moment be?
"I think my favorite moment of this season would have to be the homecoming game when we played IHC. Seeing the boys out on that field, playing their hearts out made me feel immeasurable joy, which is something I have not felt at a football game in a very long time."
