Have you ever thought about how different school was for your parents or grandparents? Think about the change in technology, or just the change in the past decade. How often do you go into a class and the teacher asks you to take out your textbook? Im sure your answer was "not very often". Of course there are still some classes that require textbook use. But I'm sure most of your classes or at least I know from experience most of my classes rarely use a text book. Even if your class does use a textbook you can find that textbook with an online version. "Today's textbooks also often have web-based sites that include assessments, animations, additional materials, videos, and other materials to support the learning of new content"(teachhub).
The form of communication between students and teachers has changed dramatically with the advances in technology and social media. The advances of the cell phone have changed communication between students. Instead of passing notes back and forth in school students are texting each other, which has caused a whole new distraction to add to the classroom. Also with social media accounts such as Facebook students and teachers can be connected to the world outside of the school building. It makes it much easier to keep in contact with your favorite school teacher or mentor after you graduate.
Advances in technology such as Google Docs had improved the efficiency for group work as well. Being able to type and edit while the other members of the group can see it helps with editing and making sure everyone in the group is doing their part. It also ensures that everyone's ideas get included.
Also the advance in classroom technology like the smart board and overhead projectors have changed the game for teachers. Instead of trying to explain things to students they can now have visual aids to help students that are more visual learners. Teachers can show movies, play educational games, use powerpoint or other forms of note taking programs. These type of online educational resources help to keep the students engaged in their learning and not dozing off in class or zoning out as the teacher is writing note after note on the chalkboard.
Technology has made a very big impact on learning and will continue too as it advances.
