Musical Happenings around the Creek

Over the past few months, students who participate in any of Sandy Creek's musical outlets have been quite busy. Back in November, the 18th and the 19th to be exact, four choral students and one band member attended Area All-State in Potsdam. Students, Josh Balcom, David Hennigan, Emily Kehoe, Mariah Hess, and Hannah Sawchuck, practiced and performed at SUNY Potsdam's Crane School of Music. These students put in hours of rehearsal time afterschool and over that weekend. This paid off with amazing performances by both the Area All-State Chorus and Area All-State Band. Two weeks after Area All-State, a Conference All-State or NYSSMA All-State occurs in Rochester. The best singers in the state are selected to attend this four day conference. One student was selected to attend NYSSMA All-State for the first time in three years. Hannah Sawchuck went to Rochester December 1st through the 4th. The experience of that weekend was unlike any other. With the multiple, long rehearsals and the chance to meet amazing new friends, NYSSMA All-State was a complete success. Transitioning forward, Caleigh Rosenbaum from the high school band, Sydney Burgy, Sarah Balcom, Ashleigh Rosenbaum, Carl Petric, and Deanna Hathway recently participated in All-County for band and the choral students of the high school and middle school are eagerly waiting for All-County in the Spring. Auditions for All-County were earlier this year. While results for middle school chorus are not yet known, results for the high school are in. Charlie Shaw, Timothy Snell, David Hennigan, JJ Hays, Emily Kehoe, Hannah Woolson, Mariah Hess, and Hannah Sawchuck will be participating in All-County's mixed chorus and Sydney Cook will be in the women's chorus. One thing is for sure, students involved in anything musical have been very busy and will continue to be busy in the coming weeks.
