Comet Pride is Community-wide!Varsity Swim
March 5th, 2017 by Chase Pappa
Swimming is a sport that requires a large amount of upper body as well as lower body, and core strength. The PACS-SCCS swim team has had an excellent season so far. The team's senior group is small consisting of only four seniors Ruthie van der Heide, Chase Pappa, Jesse Cornell, and Tom Broduer. However the other twenty swimmers on the team are divided between freshman, Gabe Broduer, Kaitlin Reynolds, Austin Schouten, and Dougles Soules. Sophomores, Courtney Burns, BenCarguello, Brandon Caufield, Rory Endsley, Abbey Fitzpatrick, Houston Gonzalez, Samantha Hefti, Phillip Kozlowski, Daniel Novak, AJ Rodriguez, and Kennedy Sullivan, and juniors, Cassidy Carnes, Katie Chase, TJ Harding, Ryan Morrissette, and Walter Novak, which hopefully will lead to returning swimmers in the next following seasons. A handful of swimmers on the team have qualified for sectionals in events such as the 50 free, 200IM, 100 Fly, as well as the 100 Freestyle. The coaches for the team are Dexter, and Raina Hinman. Dexter has been a swim coach for over twenty years, and is working on his third year for the PACS-SCCS group. Raina was a varsity diving coach for twelve years, and is also on her third year for PACS-SCCS. The coaches are assisted by the team captains Ruthie van der Heide, and Chase Pappa. Last year, almost every Sandy Creek athlete competed in sectionals as well as state-qualifiers, and they are hoping to do the same thing this year.
