Comet Pride is Community-wide!Cheer
March 5th, 2017 by Savannah Brown
It has been a very productive and successful winter season so far for Sandy Creek's cheer athletics. Varsity cheer has continued on with a great season like in fall with many of the same athletes. The team has had two competitions so far placing third in the first competition at Fulton High School without a team member and then rejoining the team member and creating a new routine placing second at Chittenango High School. As the season continues, the team will be competing in the challenging Frontier League Championship as well Section 3 Championship. If they come out with first place in the Section 3 Championship, they will be advancing onto states where all different section team champions will be competing for the title. The lady comets made it there last year and competed in the first states championship in New York when cheerleading became an official sport. This was a great accomplishment and the team strives to go back. On the other hand, JV cheerleading has been down a long, difficult road and only competed in the Chittenango competition. They will be returning next season being stronger than ever. Additionally, Sandy Creek has one of the only modified teams who compete in Section 3. The squad expeditioned in the Chittenango competition only performing a cheer and came in first place! They got back much feedback to further their performance. They will be competing in the next couple of competitions. Modified is crucial to the cheer program as it will grow the program and make future teams have more experience and have a better rate of success. Cheer is important to Sandy Creek as it has continued to be successful for the past couple of years. The sport involves a lot of dedication and hard work which each team has contributed and has been taught throughout.
