Costa Rica Field Trip

Over spring break, the Spanish class went to Costa Rica. The spent the week doing many activities, helping students, and exploring the beautiful country in Central America.
Throughout the trip, they had many amazing opportunities to look at the wilderness and the different cultures. The group was able to go zip lining in the jungle, horseback riding, hikes, and to the beach. While hiking through the jungle, they were able to see animals like sloths, exotic birds, lizards, snakes, tarantulas, and monkeys; many things you would never see in New York. They had a lot of free time to just walk around the towns and go to family owned shops and spoke to them about their lives in Costa Rica. Every meal was rice and beans with some type of meat, since it was the traditional meal.
While there, the students were able to go to a school. The children they met were very poor and barely spoke English. When they received school supplies, they were delighted. Once they had all gotten supplies, some of the children had performed a traditional dance for them. Some said seeing them so happy over something so little was strange to them, but they were happy they were able to help them and make them a little happier.
