Let's Talk About Music

May 22nd, 2017 by Hannah Sawchuck

Lots of things have been going on in Sandy Creek's music department. The middle school and high school bands had their concert on April 6th. Both bands put on a great performance. The concert was opened by a percussion ensemble, who did an amazing job. The middle school band performed next, followed by the high school. The concert concluded with both bands playing this year's main marching band song, Border Crossing. Now the bands are preparing for the 2017 marching band season and the band's first parade is Memorial Day.
Moving on to the chorus side of things, some chorus students recently participated in All-County April 7th - 8th in Fulton. These students had to audition back in December and were chosen to be in either mixed chorus or women's chorus. Each person who was selected did very well in their respective chorus's. Now certain students are preparing for Solo Fest in Mexico later this month. These students pick a solo that they will sing in front of a judge and then they must sing a section of solfege to the judge. If they do well enough they can be selected for Area All-State or even Conference All-State. Along with Solo Fest, chorus students are perfecting their music for the spring concert on May 31st. The chorus students have been working on this spring program since after the Christmas concert back in December and this concert will honor the seniors in the high school chorus.
The Sandy Creek Show Choir has been quite busy over the last few months. Back in March, the show choir travelled down to Washington D.C. to compete in the World Stride festival. They inevitably came home with a silver award, which is very good. However the trip was not solely for the competition. While in D.C., the group members and chaperones visited the Hard Rock Cafe, took the illuminated tour of the cities monuments at night, and visited Mount Vernon. The Show Choir will be doing their last performance during the Spring concert.
