Sandy Creek Central School District
Comet Pride is Community-wide!Senior Trip
June 28th, 2017 by Liz Hall
We got off to quite a rough start on Thursday, April 27th. First, the bus never showed up. 36 seniors stuck in the high school gym from 10pm until about 1:30am, waiting for a bus that never showed. We were sent home angry, sad, and disappointed. Our advisers worked the rest of that night and through the morning to find a bus for us. Finally, in the morning we had a bus and we were off!
It was a long drive, and we arrived in Virginia Beach at about 11pm. The next morning, we ventured to check out the amazing beach and then headed to the Aquarium, where we pet stingrays and watched an IMAX movie. Back at the hotel, we had some free time on the beach.
After getting ready that evening, we embarked on our dinner cruise. A delicious dinner, followed by music and dancing by some and lounging on the upper deck for others, made for a one-of-a-kind night. However, our trip back was where it really got interesting. A drive that was originally around 20 minutes ultimately took us 3 hours due to criminal activity by the beach. A bit shaken and very tired, we all returned to our hotel rooms and fell asleep.
The next morning we had breakfast and left for an amazing day at Busch Gardens. The multitude of rides and people was unlike anything most of us had seen before, and I think it's safe to say we all had a lot of fun.
After being able to finally relax on the sandy shores of Virginia Beach, our senior class made our way to Washington D.C. Traveling in the city was no cakewalk, but after driving and sitting in traffic for about 3 hours, the sights and attractions made it all worth it. We spent the night eating pizza and swimming in the hotel pool. Next we traveled to the world renowned, Busch Gardens. Here we spent the afternoon enjoying the food and getting our thrills on all the roller coasters. At the end of the day, everyone was sun-burnt and tired, luckily we had free time back at the hotel to just relax An early morning the next day allowed us to see The Smithsonian Science Museum. We spend much of the morning touring the different buildings and shopping in roadside vendors. Not only were we able to see modern history, but long ago history that was a major part of shaping everything today. This was not only educational, but the museums were beautifully designed so that everyone can enjoy it. Unfortunately, we were not able to tour all of the buildings because of a time limit. However, this was a sacrifice made so that we could go to the DC Zoo. The main attraction of the day were the Giant Pandas. The two oldest pandas had recently had a baby so we got to see first hand a panda family. However, there was more to the park than just pandas. There were also elephants, tigers, seals, and a wide variety of other wild animals.
Due to the delay in the schedule one of our events was cancelled. To replace it, the travel agency paid in full a night at Dave and Busters. The last part of our adventure was to the different memorials in D.C. These included the Lincoln Memorial, World War II Memorial, Vietnam War Memorial, Arlington Cemetery, and the changing of the guard. The day was full of aching feet, picture worthy sights, and a sense of patriotism like no other. We then boarded the bus and headed home.
