Sandy Creek Girls Varsity Cross Country Team
The 2017 cross country season was exceptionally well for the comets. From the first practice to every race the team was all in. The seniors Allison burrows, Emily Kehoe, and Becca Miller. The juniors, Kayla Carnes, Abbey Fitzpatrick, and Kennedy Sullivan. The lone soldier sophomore, Sydney Cook and last but not least the freshman Gabrielle Brown, Sydney Burgy, Deanna Hathway, and Emily Yousey. From the top runners Emily Yousey, Gabby Brown, Sydney Burgy, and Abbey Fitzpatrick the whole team gave it their all and their times show it.
Throughout the season the runners were on track with their goals, but they were closest to their goals at the frontier league championship at Beaver River. It was at this race that every runner met their time goal. From season to season the runners favorite races are the Adirondack invite, this race is at the end of October and is full of mud and Frigid temperatures that only the strongest willed can endure. Sectionals are always on the top of the list as well. The girls cross country team is very involved with the community. At the cross the creek color run, the team plus as many community members as possible run a 5k course with paint being thrown at them throughout the race. Over 200 people can to the run this fall and it was a huge success. All profits are given to the creekers and go towards the organization "a cure relay for life".
The coach, Mrs. King enjoys her time with the team very much. She states, "Every day I appreciate that I am surrounded by the very nicest group of students in our school. Our team is always a scholar athlete and sportsmanship award winning team. They make our community proud." From team member Sydney Burgy, "we've had a great season, and I love improving alongside the rest of my team". Over all the 2017 fall season was a successful season for the girls cross country team.
