Sandy Creek Central School District
Comet Pride is Community-wide!Marching Band
January 28th, 2018 by Sarah Balcom
The Sandy Creek Marching Band is led by Tom Artini and is made up of students in grades 7-12. When Mr. Artini first came here
in 1996, things were a little different than they are now. When asked about the band in the early years, Mr. Artini referred to it as a "ragtag organization". He explained that many of the percussion instruments were of different brands. He also mentioned
that it became confusing to know what song the band would be playing because the majorettes were to call the songs and the section leaders held up a corresponding number, but not everyone could hear or see the whole time.
The current marching band is a fairly small group with more younger players than older players. Mr. Artini says that the band
is "still in rebuilding mode" and he hopes to attract more students with the idea of summer trips. Previously the band has gone to places like Boston to visit witch and pirate museums and Six Flags, Pennsylvania for a tour and ghostwalk in Gettysburg and
then to visit Hershey Park, and Ohio to visit Cedar Point. He also explains how the band is a little more organized by using the drumline to play an intro to a song so that the whole band can hear it and know what song to play.
In the future, Mr. Artini hopes to see the marching band continue and expand. He wants to get many more younger band members interested.
In fact, in the beginning of the school year, Mr. Artini brought the high school members of the marching band down to the elementary to perform for the younger kids in hopes of them one day joining marching band.
