Comet Pride is Community-wide!Boys Modified Basketball
May 4th, 2022 by Madison Lamica
The boys modified basketball had a great season this year. The 7th grade boys were coached by Tonya Trudell and the 8th grade boys were coached by Jonn Stoker. I asked coach Stoker about how their season went and he replied They were a great group of players, fun to coach. They were very aggressive which is cool to watch and work with. I then asked Coach Stoker what challenges the team faced this season and he responded with As far as any challenges, this group had not played basketball the year before because of covid so there was a learning curve. The other challenge was a tough schedule. We played much larger schools such as Watertown, Carthage, Lowville, South Jeff, General Brown and Indian RIver. We had one game against a C School. We did win a few games including South Lewis, South Jeff and General Brown. We improved all year and played Carthage, Watertown and Lowville much tougher the second time around. Covid has had an effect on all the sports teams, its hard for teams to adapt after covid but our schools teams have done a pretty good job. I then asked Coach Stoker why he decided to coach and he replied with I have coached basketball for 12 years at Sandy Creek, most of those years coaching boys modified. It looked like they needed a coach for this year so I offered to do it again. Thankfully Mrs Trudell stepped up and took the 7th grade team so I was able to focus more on the 8th grade team. This group was very athletic and coachable. They improved throughout the season and I can not wait to watch them on JV and Varsity. This team will be one to watch as they continue to improve over the years.
