Comet Pride is Community-wide!Girls Modified Basketball
May 4th, 2022 by Madison Lamica
Girls basketball had a good turnout this season filled with determination and laughs. The girls are coached by Whitney Oak. I spoke with Coach Oak and asked how the season went, if the team faced any challenges and why she decided to coach. Coach Oak replied with With covid restrictions in previous years, none of the girls had any experience playing organized basketball. But, the girls were eager to learn and worked really hard to improve each game. They grew individually and as a team, as the season progressed. It was so fun to watch them build skills and start to be competitive with other schools! I decided to coach because I played basketball all through high school and college. I have so many fond memories of my coaches and time as a player. The experiences and life lessons that sports provide are unmatched. I wanted to coach to provide those same experiences to our students and to build relationships outside of the academic setting. Also, Im extremely competitive, so coaching allows my competitive spirit to come out! The sandy creek community is lucky to have such dedicated coaches as this one. Coach Oak also is coaching softball this year! The basketball girls are a great unit that will continue to grow as time goes on.
