Fifth grade students at Sandy Creek Elementary School completed a Pizza Box Hero Biography project where each student chose their own personal hero. Their hero could have been someone who was historically important, someone who had achieved great things, or someone who had noble qualities to be admired. The heroes came from a wide range of individuals; from Moses to their grandmother, Susan B. Anthony to their father, Albert Einstein to David Ortiz. Students researched or interviewed to learn about eight aspects or "slices" of their hero's life. Pizza boxes were used to display the completed projects, and the elementary school students and staff were able to view them. Each student presented their hero project to their classmates, and recorded video presentations were shared with all.

“The most wonderful part of the Hero Biography project was that the students enjoyed learning more about each other by understanding each other's hero choice,” said fifth grade teacher Patricia King.
