Fifth Grade Moving Up Ceremony at Sandy Creek Elementary School

Fifth graders at Sandy Creek Elementary School held a special moving up ceremony to commemorate their successful completion of elementary school and moving up to the middle school and sixth grade next year.

Bonnie Finnerty, principal at the school spoke to the students, family and friends gathered for the ceremony about the importance of leadership and shared some of the many characteristics of a good leader including: good character, charisma, commitment, courage, focus, generosity, good listening, compassion, positive, responsible and self-disciplined to name a few. “These students have these skills, and our students are also kind, funny, hard-working and creative,” she said. “It has been an absolute pleasure being their principal this year.”

Principal Finnerty and Superintendent of Schools Kyle Faulkner presented academic excellence, leadership and perfect attendance awards to the fifth graders. Perfect attendance was awarded to Skylar Clark and Benjamin Erickson.
Receiving academic awards for highest overall average in Social Studies by homeroom were: Alex Caufield, Ben Erickson, Maddox Palmer and Perle Convey. Science academic award recipients were: Alex Caufield, Trevor McDougal and Maddox Palmer. Math academic awards were presented to: Alex Caufield, Cameron Hathway and Maddox Palmer. ELA highest overall average academic awards went to: Hannah White, Skylar Clark and Maddox Palmer.

A special Valedictorian award was presented to Maddox Palmer for having the highest overall average for the 5th grade class.

The students performed several songs to commemorate the event that tied in with their character, perseverance and willingness to branch out and try new things.

Following the ceremony in the auditorium, a special reception and photo booth was held in the commons area outside of their classrooms.
