Sandy Creek Middle School Student Council members collected items to assemble chemo care packages that were distributed to those undergoing chemotherapy treatments at Hematology Oncology Associates of Central New York. The students gathered items that offer a little comfort or distraction for the treatment which can take hours to administer. Among the items collected were: caffeine-free tea, lip balm, icy cool towels, Biotene mouth rinse, fuzzy socks, personal-sized tissues, bottles of water, puzzle and word search books to pass the time and more. Included in each bag was a small hand-made pillow created by students in family consumer science class to cushion sensitive skin where it might be rubbed during the lengthy procedure. Approximately two dozen bags were donated to local facility for distribution to their patients.
