Members of a local fire department visited Sandy Creek Elementary School where they spoke to students about fire safety. The students learned to stop, drop, cover your face and roll if they ever catch fire.

The volunteers from the Sandy Creek Fire Department also talked with students about the importance of establishing a safe meeting place in the event that their house caught fire and they needed to evacuate. They encouraged the students to go home and talk with their families about designating a space to meet in the event of an emergency evacuation situation.

The fire fighters also demonstrated how they get dressed when they go to a fire and they timed firefighter Harris to see how quickly he could be prepared to go. Students were also able to walk through the fire truck to see what it looked like inside.

The fire fighters also gave each student a fire safety activity bag and a fire helmet to take home.
