The Sandy Creek choral music department presented a 5th-12th grade choral concert on December 17 before a packed audience of family and friends. Beginning with the 5th grade chorus, Chorus Director Jackie Hobbs led the students through a tribute to snow with "Here Comes the Snow,” "Japanese Snow Song” which featured some of the lyrics in Japanese, and "Do You Want to Build a Snowman?” Up next, the 6th grade chorus, under the direction of Sandy Kinney, sang "Candlelight Carol,” "Deck the Hall and Decorate,” and Siyahamba. Mrs. Kinney also led the 7th and 8th grade chorus in several beautifully harmonic versions of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen,” "Hey, Ho, Nobody Home,” "Shalom Haverim,” "The Water is Wide,” and "Merry Christmas!”
The 9th - 12th Mixed Chorus, again under the direction of Sandy Kinney, featured several holiday favorites with beautiful harmonies, and a special song, "For Unto Us a Child is Born,” by the Sandy Creek Show Choir. Madeline Yousey was the featured soloist for that performance.
For the final set of songs, the entire 5-12 choruses joined together spanning across the stage and up and down the stage stairs in a huge group, illustrating the voice talent and interest in the music programs in the district. The final set was a huge hit with choral highlights from the movie "Frozen” sung by members of the 5th-12th grade choruses. The evening culminated in a finale with all voices for the popular song, "Let It Go.” The applause that erupted following the song was deafening and many in the audience spontaneously jumped to their feet to show their approval.
