Sandy Creek second-graders spell out "America" as part of a Flag Day celebration held in the school auditorium.

Patriotism resonated throughout the Sandy Creek Central School District auditorium recently as elementary students celebrated Flag Day.Second-graders paraded around the auditorium with American flags as part of an annual tribute to Old Glory. Younger students sat in the audience and were captivated by the songs, stories and facts that the second-graders presented.Songs such as "God Bless America," "This Land is Your Land," and the "Star Spangled Banner" filled the air. In between the musical numbers, students spelled out "America" and listed different adjectives for each letter that described the United States. According to elementary Principal Sue Ann Archibee, the yearly celebration serves as a reminder of the freedoms that we have as U.S. citizens and how lucky we are to have so many opportunities.
