Dear Parents and/or Guardians:

We hope that you have been enjoying the summer weather and are starting to think about the start of a new school year. If you have been by the elementary school you may have noticed all the work being done to the parking lot. The parking lot project is set to be complete later this month and we are excited to have much more parking space available to our parents and visitors.

The new parking lot will still have only one entrance and one exit to allow for a better flow of traffic. There will also be some designated parking spaces for visitors (see attached map) to use and we have a couple of new Handicap Accessible spaces available near a new access ramp being built into the existing sidewalk. We hope that the expansion of the parking lot will ease the stress of finding a spot to park when we have events and at the end of the school day.

In an effort to increase the safety and security of our students, we will also be implementing a new parent pick-up and dismissal procedure. All students in grades K-5 who are being picked up from school will be held in the school until they are signed out by their parent or guardian. No students K-5 will be dismissed out the doors until they are signed out.

For parent pick-up at dismissal, there will be a new entrance for parents to enter the school building located on the front corner of the PreK room. There is a new sidewalk across the front corner of the building that will lead you to that door. The door will be unlocked each afternoon at 2:55 and parents must come into the building and sign out their child(ren) from room 1102 on the corner (formerly the Reading Center). Jeanette Waggoner and other staff will have all students awaiting pick up in the room until they are signed out by their parent. Once you have signed out your child(ren) you will leave the building out the double doors leading to the parking lot. Please know that for the safety and well being of our students this change is a must and we appreciate your support with the new dismissal procedure.

Our office staff will have a list of all students at the table when you arrive and they will have it color coded accordingly for everyday pick-ups and those that are called in periodically. As with any new procedure or change, we know that we may have to tweak this a little bit once we start using this new procedure, but for the safety of all the students, we will require that you park and come in the building to sign out your child(ren) for grades K-5.

Student drop off in the parking lot will remain the same as it has always been. There will be a staff member at the door to greet your child(ren) when you pull up to the curb and drop them off. Thank you for your continued support of our efforts to ensure all students are safe here at Sandy Creek.
