The Sandy Creek MS/HS School library recently became a space for inspiration and meaningful conversations as seventh- and eighth-grade students presented Capstone projects focused on causes and issues important to them, including environmental awareness, animal rights, mental health advocacy and more.

The Capstone project helps prepare students for earning a Regents diploma while building skills that will benefit them in high school and college. Through research and presentations, students are encouraged to discover their passions while raising awareness about real-world problems and possible solutions.

"I've learned how to communicate with people and how to use teamwork," said Lilyanah D., an eighth-grade student.

"I've learned how to follow what you're passionate about and how to work together with others that are passionate about the same thing. It has helped me with time management and connections," said Addyson K., an eighth-grade student.

The presentations gave students an opportunity to strengthen communication, teamwork and leadership skills while sharing topics that matter most to them.
