Sealing the Deal
By Emma Halsey on June 6th, 2022
On April 29th, four of Sandy Creeks seniors“Abigail Lantry, Emma Halsey, Kendall Darling, and Hailey McNitt“ traveled to CiTis Phoenix campus with Spanish teacher Kristin Vasquez to earn their Seal of Biliteracy. This trip was the final step in a lengthy process; the Seal of Biliteracy is a year-long endeavor designed for students to prove their capabilities in their target language and to learn about a connecting cultural element of their choice. After researching their subject, recording journals, and creating miniature projects (aka artifacts) that further their understanding, the journey concluded with a presentation. Students then presented their topic to a panel proficient in the target language. This year, eight students from Oswego County completed the Seal of Biliteracy“five in Spanish and three in German. All four students from Sandy Creek exceeded expectations and will officially receive their Seal medals on graduation day, June 25th.
