For decades the last day of school before Thanksgiving Break, first and second graders at Sandy Creek Elementary School have held a Thanksgiving Feast where students can sample some of the foods served at a typical Thanksgiving table.

In a celebration of kindness and cooperation, the students dress as Pilgrims and Native Americans to symbolize the first Thanksgiving celebration.

The first grade students create Native American headdresses and vests in class, while the second grade classes create Pilgrim hats and bonnets before the students come together to perform musical numbers for parents, family members and guests.

The tradition has gone on for many years and several parents of the students in the program recalled fondly their own time performing in the annual feast.

The performance is a cooperative effort by classroom and special teachers, including chorus teacher Jackie Hobbs who coordinates the show each year.
