Comet Pride is Community-wide!Sandy Creek Students Travel Back to Ancient Mesopotamia
October 27th, 2022 by Jordan Finnerty
Sixth grade students in Sandy Creeks Ancient Cultures class recently put themselves in the shoes of ancient Mesopotamians for a class assignment.
For this assignment, students learned about architecture and ancient structures commonly found in ancient Mesopotamia. Students were then given the option to draw or create a 3D model of a Sumerian Ziggurat.
"Ziggurats were very important in Sumerian culture," said Kim Curley, the teacher of the class. "It was a place of work and worship, and a community center of sorts. Students who opted to create a 3D model, could have help from family members. Once the project started rolling in, I was blown away by what the students created. They did such a great job."
Another part of the assignment involved students learning about what family roles, jobs, and clothing would have looked like in ancient Sumerian culture. Students then made drawings, depicting what their own families may have looked like at the time.
